Tomorrow Will Come… But Today Matters More!

Lately, we’ve seen so many beautiful posts about veterans who have passed. Communities rally

around them. People visit their graves, place flags, share their stories, say their names, and make

sure their service is never forgotten.

And we should.

There is something incredibly powerful about seeing a community come together to honor someone

who served our country.

But it also makes me think about the veterans who are still here.

The Vietnam veteran sitting quietly at the local coffee shop. The Korean War veteran who doesn’t

get out as much anymore. The veteran who served decades ago and still carries memories most of

us will never fully understand. The veteran living right down the street whose story we may have

never taken the time to hear.

Do they know we see them?

Do they know that we remember what they did?

Do they know that their service still matters to us?

We do such a beautiful job honoring our veterans when they are gone. But we shouldn’t wait until

there is a flag beside a headstone to show someone how much their life and service meant.

Honor them now.

Say their name now.

Sit beside them now.

Listen to their stories now.

Shake their hand. Buy them a cup of coffee. Invite them to lunch. Ask them where they served. And

most importantly, take the time to listen to the answer.

At MassVAF, this is at the heart of what we are trying to build. It isn’t just about a meal or groceries.

It’s about creating a place where veterans walk through the door and know they matter. Where

someone knows their name. Where their service is acknowledged and their sacrifices are

remembered.

Because someday, there will be a flag placed at every veteran’s grave.

There will be people who stop and say, Thank you for your service. We remember you.

But while they are still here, we have the opportunity to say something even more important:We see you.

We remember what you did.

We honor your sacrifice.

And we are grateful you are here.

Tomorrow will come.

But today matters more.
